I write about travel and culture for a variety of print and online publications, including BBC Travel, National Geographic Traveller, The Independent, The Times, Rough Guides and Lonely Planet.

My debut narrative non-fiction book, Fiesta: A Journey Through Festivity, was published by Icon Books in August 2025. It has been praised for its “soaring prose” by BBC Travel, and described as, “A unique insight into the human condition… thought-provoking and inspiring” by Levison Wood.

Order Fiesta from Bookshop.org, Amazon, Waterstones, Stanfords, Foyles, or wherever else you buy your books.

I’ve also authored, co-authored or contributed to more than 30 travel books for Rough Guides, Lonely Planet, DK Eyewitness, Insight Guides and Berlitz, on destinations including Indonesia, Nepal, Oman, Mexico, Tokyo, Thailand and Andalusia. My portfolio can be found here.

I also regularly appear as a guest on travel podcasts and radio shows, and host my own podcast on food and travel, Hungry Ghosts.

In 2021, I was shortlisted for Freelance Travel Writer of the Year in the Freelance Writing Awards, in 2024 I was shortlisted for Travel Writer of the Year at the ANTOR Media Awards and Consumer Writer of the Year at the Travel Media Awards, and in 2025 I was a finalist for Domestic Travel Writer of the Year at the TravMedia Awards.

I’m a Gold Standard-qualified NCTJ-accredited journalist, hold a 1st-class honours degree in Comparative Religion & Social Anthropology from the University of Manchester, and have an MA in South Asian Area Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.
